Chong Wei avenge his defeat in the team event when he beat Boonsak Ponsana 21-13, 21-17 in the Asian Games individual event today. Chong Wei will most likely meet Chen Jin in the semi finals. Malaysia hopes for medals now only lies in Chong Wei and Kien Keat/Boon Heong as both Mew Choo and Hafiz lost their matches yesterday.

Kien Keat/Boon Heong will meet Mohammad AHSAN/Alvent Yulianto CHANDRA in the semi finals today.

Boonsak beat Chong Wei, Malaysia out of team event

For the first time in 30 years, Malaysia lost to Thailand 2-3 in the Asian Games team event yesterday. Thailand have their confidence high when Boonsak beat world no 1 Lee Chong Wei, 9-21, 21-10,21-19. Chong Wei was down with fever and Boonsak injured his neck in the recent French Open but it was Boonsak who played well to lead his country to victory.

Kien Keat/Boon Heong and Haifz won their matches respectively to bring Malaysia to 2-1. However is was the Thailand players who shine in the battle between the youngsters when they won the remaining 2 matches to give Thailand their sweet victory.

Exciting Commonwealth Games finals ahead with Kien Keat/Eei Hui creating surprises

KOO Kien Keat / CHIN Ee Hui created surprises when they enter finals today by beating TRIYACHART Chayut / YAO Lei from Singapore, 19-21, 21-16, 21-18.
They will face ROBERTSON Nathan James / WALLWORK Jenny who beat CHAN Peng Soon / GOH Liu Ying 19-21, 21-13, 23-21.

Other latest result so far:
WONG Mew Choo (MAS) beat CANN Liz (ENG),21-12, 18-21, 21-17.
Fans can expect a repeat showdown between Mew Choo and India's badminton queen, Saina Nehwal in the finals.

Lin lost to Lee in Japan Open 2010

The men single final today between Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei in the Japan Super Series 2010 was perhaps the most anticipated match as usual by badminton fans.Lin Dan,the usually more dominant player, surprisingly lost to Chong Wei in 3 sets,20-22, 21-16, 17-21.

Meanwhile, Cai Yun/Fu Hai Feng continue their gallant run by beating Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong for the second consecutive time, 18-21 21-14 21-12.

What a surprise!! Not only Lee Chong Wei is out in the QF of WC but his nemisis, Lin Dan is also out. Taufik Hidayat beat LCW 21-15 11-21 21-12 while Park Sung Hwan defeated China's superdan (not superdan this time maybe in WC).

On the other hand, Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong live up to their no 1 status when they beat Lee Yong Dae/Jung Jae Sung, 23-25 21-13 21-14.

Personally, i was expecting Lee Chong Wei and Korea Lee/Jung to win based on their previous matches respectively. But the opposite happen. So many upsets for this WC. May the best player win.

Most of the badminton fans would expect Malaysia to be named as one of the host for the Premier Super Series 2011. Unfortunately, though regarded as badminton powerhouse, Malaysia was not selected. Korea, Denmark, China, Indonesia and Indonesia will be hosting the the Premier Super Series from 2011-2013.

Perhaps, is it because Malaysia cant afford to offer the minimum prize money of US$350 000? Dont know what is the reason, but surely we will want to see more fire in Malaysian players to win titles, especially with the added motivation for the attractive cash prize.

Korea gave everyone surprise when they did not field Lee Yong Dae for the coming Thomas Cup in May as Korea is more focus on the Guangzhou Asian Games. However, Lee Yong Dae's regular partner, Jung Jae Sung will be featured in the Thomas Cup. With the absence of Yong Dae, Korea's men doubles strength is weakened. However, their men's singles is further strengthen by the inclusion of former international singles player, Lee Hyun Il.

Korea is not the only country that called back retired players as Denmark also named coach and former player, Kenneth Jonassen for Thomas Cup. Meanwhile, Indonesia has included scratch pair Nova Widianto and Muhammad Ahsan in their team. Added with these surprise entry, Thomas Cup promises an interesting battle between badminton powerhouses to fight for the prestigious trophy.

Young shuttlers create history

Congrats to Goh Liu Ying/Chan Peng Soon for being the first Malaysians to win an international mix doubles title in the senior level. The young duo defeated more experience Yoo Yeon-seong/Kim Min-jung in the Asian Badminton Championship on Sunday. With this win, we can hope for a better future for Malaysia's mix doubles as they are still very young.

Kudos also to Woon Khe Wei/Vivian Hoo though they did not win but entering the finals can be consider a good achievement considering they beat Indonesia's Greysia Polii/Meliana Jauhari and the tournament's 4th seed, Savitree/Vacharaporn en route to the finals.

As expected, Lin Dan won and will regain his status as the China's number 1 and will lead China in the Thomas Cup challenge as the first single.

Can Malaysia win Thomas Cup?

The Thomas and Uber Cup will be held in Bukit Jalil from 9 - 16 May 2010. Can Malaysia win Thomas Cup this year? Being group with Japan and Nigeria, i think Malaysia should top the group. The chance will depend on the 2nd stage draw which will be conducted after the group stage. As usual, we will depend on Lee Chong Wei as the first singles and Koo/Tan as the first doubles. Will the home ground support be an advantage to Malaysia or put more pressure. Let's see and hope Malaysia Boleh !!

Congrats to Nicol David for becoming the Kuala Lumpur Open champion. In my opinion, she is the best Malaysian athlete. Perhaps also the most consistent squash player in the world. Respect her a lot as she is not only successful but also humble and very sporting. Hope other athlete can emulate her success.

Finally, Lee Chong Wei was crowned as the All England champion, a title that every badminton player dream of. It was a very close game and praise should be given to Lee's opponent, Kenichi Tago who has high fighting spirit. In the end, it is the experience of Lee that cause him to win. Indeed Kenichi is a player to watch out in the future as this young player is talented, very determined and calm in his game. Now Lee can be proud of his 3 consecutive Super Series in 2010 beginnning with the Korean and Malaysia Super Series title and All England. May he continue to make Malaysia proud and do well in Swiss Open this week. This win also show a good sign for Lee to lead Malaysia in the Thomas Cup in May.

Unexpected men's singles finalist for All England

Most of the badminton fans are expecting to watch Lee Chong Wei vs Lin Dan in the All England finals. However, the highly anticipated match didnt materialize as Lin Dan lost to his teammate Bao Chunlai in the quarter finals. Unexpectedly Bao Chunlai, lost to Japan's young rising star, Kenichi Tago in the semi finals yesterday. Kenichi Tago had beaten 3 seeded players including Nguyen Tien Minh, Chen Jin and Bao Chunlai to reach the final. Will the unseeded Kenichi be able to beat the 1st seed, Lee Chong Wei or will Lee win the All England title which Malaysia had long hope for after Hafiz Hashim won it in 2003. Just read the news that Lee Chong Wei is ranked number 3 in the Reader’s Digest Asia Most Trusted People survey. Squash queen Nicol David is voted number 1. Personally, i think she really deserve to top the list with her numerous achievements. She is the most consistent athlete in Malaysia and also a very humble person. Congrats to Nicol.

hi guys.just back fr sg open. overal it is an incredible week but just too bad mas lost in qf. haih would have been much better if wong/chin have won. if they win they would have gotten to finals. lost so narrowly 19-21 in g3. nway wish them gd luck in indonesia open.
